The Lone Star Ensemble is
a non-profit corporation dedicated to the advancement of theatre
arts throughout the Los Angeles community. The officers and members
of the Ensemble believe that there is a genuine cultural need for deeply
felt and disciplined productions that rightly honor our craft.
"Lone Star Ensemble" is,
in fact, a calculated oxymoron. Deep within the culture of Hollywood,
it is our strongest desire to present plays which highlight the ensemble
and mine the talents of all members of our company -- to focus the
spotlight on the whole group as opposed to allowing only one or two individuals
to shine. And as a public benefit charity, "Lone Star" is indeed
unique in its dedication to fulfilling the following specific objectives
within the community:
-
To produce new and lesser-known
plays by talented classical and modern writers;
-
To make these pieces available
to audiences who otherwise might not have access to such works;
-
To present plays of literary
merit in a manner applicable to the generations of today;
-
To use the medium of theatre
to bring a degree of artistic clarity to inherent questions concerning
the life experience.
In early 2000, the founders
of the Lone Star Ensemble formed a theatre company with a specific vision:
to create an environment in which actors, directors, writers, and crew
members are able to explore and nurture their crafts without the pressures
or negativity of competing with one another. Artists who volunteer
to donate their time and skills to our organization are free to take uncomfortable
risks, to argue their sometimes opposing visions, and above all else, to
listen to and learn from one another. We have come together with
these ideals in mind to produce plays which will hopefully both entertain
and enlighten, staging the works of past, present, and future playwrights
who use their words to challenge both the actor and the audience member.
