Icarus's Mother is Sam Shepard's first Obie Award-winning play, originally produced in 1965 at Caffe Cino in New York amidst the New York jazz explosion.  The play brilliantly reflects the influences of jazz on Shepard's work, as well as his exploration with Cubism in the dramatic form.

"I started thinking about the kind of structure jazz has, the kind of life it implies, and I decided to see if I could be a playwright myself with what I'd learned from [jazz musicians]."  -Sam Shepard

"I had no idea of the profundity of the man.  He thinks like a drummer."  -Lengendary jazz composer Max Roach on Shepard
