The
Illusion by Tony Kushner is a magical fantasy about the power
of theatre and its ability to transform an audience... or not. Yet
within the fairy tale, profound and modern meditations on love, control,
deceit, family, passion and identity emerge. We should see ourselves
in The Illusion.
Loosely adapted from Pierre
Corneille's neoclassical French comedy L'Illusion
Comique, Kushner's version strikes a fantastic marriage of Comedia
dell'arte and contemporary realism. Sorcery and generation gaps,
sword fights and temper tantrums, rhapsodies and slapstick make this event
both timely and timeless. It is a lyric morality tale peppered with
Kushner's renowned wit and social satire.
Featuring music composed
by Jim Cowgill, Neysa Glaros, and Chuck Overcash.
